Make your CV stand out

I’ve been writing CVs for over 10 years now – and it still amazes me how confusing some of them are!  There are times where I need to hunt through the document to find the person’s experience.

I transform CVs to make them stand out and give an employer the opportunity to glance at your front page and get an accurate synopsis of you!

If you’re writing your own CV, just remember that an employer or recruitment agency could potentially be viewing hundreds of CVs and may not read through the whole document.  They are not looking for why they should hire you – they are looking at why your CV should be put in the NO pile.

Here are my top tips for making your CV stand out and get it in the YES pile:

  1. Write a paragraph on yourself.  Talk about how many years experience you have and in what fields you carry this experience (make sure it’s relevant).  Briefly touch on a specific skill set and make this your point of difference – how you will add value to the team / project.
  2. Dot point your key skills – if the role requires IT experience, dot point your HTML, website maintenance, email troubleshooting skills etc.  Make it known that you know how to do the job!
  3. List your most recent and relevant positions – this will reinforce your knowledge of the position to the employer
